If you’re looking for the more traditional vibe North Conway had before it sold out to shopping outlets, (ie snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice fishing, skiing etc) then Maine offers a lot.

Bar Harbor is about as alive as a 117 year old in the winter.
North Conway is “alive” in the winter at least, or at least to whatever sentience strip malls and corporate chains are.

Congrats! Got a Taco too. Best bet is to get a Delorme gazetteer and go from there. Stud Mill comes off Rt 2 heading east in Milford, just north of Old Town. Loads of logging roads out that way. Just be mindful that there are gates that are often closed this time of year and until mud season is over.
