I just moved here from Portland for an entry level dev job. It was quite the shift from bustling metro city to small town vibes, but if that’s what you’re into you’ll love it. especially if you’re planning on a family or to settle down in general. Local compensation is generally lower than market rate. But it’s way cheaper to live here than Austin. Some cool bars and coffee shops too.

could it be that it’s more affordable than most cities to live alone? I considered getting roommates living here, but at $675 for a 1br I can afford to not have to deal with someone else’s mess.

Reply to Is Vanlife safe in Springfield for a 21yoF? by [deleted]
I did it when I first moved here a few months ago. The heat, cold and humidity of almost anywhere except the west coast or the mountains makes vanning pretty miserable. But I read somewhere that the police only enforce the law when reported. I had no problem for almost three weeks but I have a newer and very incognito van and I left town on the weekends. You’d have to keep a very low profile and be strategic about where and when you park and I’m not sure that would be easy to maintain in such a small city
