However, most new appliances breakdown after 5-6 years - if not sooner in a lot of cases. Likely will work our more economically if it lasts OP for the rest of their life.

Not sure if it’s your thing but Dr Martens sandals. I’ve worn my docs everyday for 4 years, no sign of wear!

I’ve worn my Dr Marten platforms pretty much every day for the last 4 years and they are still going very strong. I also have pairs from 10 years ago that are good as new.
Get the docs - they will last you!
