Consider attaching rolled bamboo to it on either side. Will last much longer than a new wood fence in Seattle and can be quite pretty. Wood anything in Seattle turns to rot so quickly. See:

Dumb question- how do you get all the proportions right when working on a giant canvas like this? Seems a lot easier to create a painting where you can see the whole picture the whole time.
