Reply to comment by johnsolomon in UK schools ban physical contact, prevent students from holding hands, hugging by phoenix0153
>So what, are these kids gonna get punished if they clap a buddy on the shoulder after winning a game or hug a friend when they're down? Sounds like they're just going to foster some really socially awkward teenagers
>Students are not allowed to touch each other whilst on site. The only exceptions will be in Performing Arts, sporting activities and PE lessons, when this is required. This will help to create a calm and orderly atmosphere and ensure that there is no confusion about play fighting or anything more serious.
While the internet is largely against the policy, the parents seem to be really for it. I'm somewhat curious what led up to this.

Reply to comment by lowercaseyao in China gives Hong Kong leader power to bar overseas lawyers in national security cases by ihavestrings
The Hong Kong legal system is supposed to be separate from the Chinese legal system until 2047.
The practice of using foreign lawyers has been part of the Hong Kong legal system for a few hundred years: both prosecution and defense use them regularly.
In this case we have Lee, who asked HK courts for the power to refuse foreign lawyers and was told that goes against HK law: the HK Court of Final Appeal told him no.
So he went to the CCP and got approval that way instead.

Reply to comment by [deleted] in Japan to deploy missile unit on island near Taiwan by epistemic_epee
I don't know if there is an official comment from Taiwan; but they have meetings more than once a month and President Tsai Ing-wen has asked for Japan's security assistance.
Yonaguni is not a disputed island. It is about 65 miles east of Taiwan, a little closer than the Chinese mainland.
It would probably be used in a joint-operation to defend Taiwan. The locals in Yonaguni have mixed feelings about this: they don't want to be caught up in a war; but they are tired of Chinese aggression.

>Specifically, the ministry is set to expand the Ground Self-Defense Force’s Camp Yonaguni, which is part of Okinawa Prefecture, to accommodate the unit, the spokesman said.

>The deployment is intended to strengthen the defense of the Nansei Islands, including Yonaguni, as China boosts its military pressure on Taiwan, sources familiar with the matter said.
It isn't mentioned in the article, but I believe we are discussing Mitsubishi Type 03 Medium-Range SAMs. There has also been discussion of bolstering drone defenses. The article mentions an electronic warfare unit as well.
>In fiscal 2023, which begins next April, an electronic warfare unit aimed at obstructing enemy communications and radar by electromagnetic waves will also be deployed at the camp.

Reply to US sanctions man accused of arms deal with North Korea and Russia by FuckYouReddiit
For some reason, my brain parsed this title as being about 'Sanctions Man', some kind of new American superhero who got caught buying NK and Russian weapons.
Probably everyone else read the title correctly. But just in case, Sanctions Man is not a person.
