Nope. Finishing salt would not be as effective at seasoning a dish, and the coarse kosher salt I use to season a dish would not be as good for finishing. I get that you want to write it off as just wanky and expensive but maybe have an open mind. I use Maldon salt when I want to really emphasize the salt flavor (usually to offset/compliment sweetness) and add a very specific bit of crunchy texture to a dish. It’s expensive but you use very little of it.

Finishing salt is meant to be put on the finished dish, as the name implies, whereas salt is usually added before or during cooking to enhance the flavor of a dish. While a well seasoned dish might not taste salty, when you use finishing salt you want to really taste the salt distinctly and it tends to come in larger, crunchy flakes to enhance texture too.
