If they want to get rid of the rats they just have to introduce owls. If the owls don't simply die during the winter you can hire owl exterminators.

Peltier coolers have been a thing in missiles since the 70s. They aren't particularly efficient but they're lightweight.

I guess it's technically possible if you're knocked unconscious and wake up in custody.
Realistically the warship just kept lobbing shells at them until they surrendered. The fact so few died was probably to try and save ammo, intimidate them into surrender with a dozen shells vs pounding the place to dust so your own guys don't get shot at when moving stuff onto the island.

Look into sub-pixel animation. It helps smooth out the sudden jump between pixels by instead shifting the color of adjacent pixels. Basically pixel art motion blur.
