I don't fish but was a scout leader for years. Yes, season opens on April 8th. Best fishing is opening weekend and there will be people there at daybreak, but there should be good fishing throughout the spring. Stocked fish is safe but consider any native fish to be toxic. Groundwater in RI is bad. I believe you can get a fishing license at walmart or anywhere that sells gear. That used to be the case. If your kid catches their first fish, make sure you order the First Fish Award.

There are coyotes in Providence, so yea, they are in NK. I don't believe there have been any verified sightings of wolves in the wild in southern New England in decades.

There are comedy open mics all over the place. Rick's in Woonsocket on Wednesdays, Pub on Park in Cranston on Mondays, Brooklyn Pizza in Providence on Thursdays, and, of course Askew, which is a real nice place. Search for Rhode Island Comedy Open Mics in Facebook.

English style beers are so unrepresented. And Pizza Fair a half mile away has a pretty good fish and chips.

Also consider pub trivia. A great many options there.

Music and comedy open mics are usually in bars. That's part of their economic model. I wouldn't rule a bar out. Anyhow, there are comedy open mics all around the metropolitan area, but I don't know of any specifically on the Pawtucket line. There's Copperfield's in Johnston (Tuesdays), Pub on Park in Cranston (Mondays), Park Place Cafe in Cranston (Wednesdays), Town Pub in EP (Thursdays), and others. Most will have music open mics on other nights.

I suggest you rent a hotel room for three days and spend the time visiting various neighborhoods to get a feel for them. Also, many people do live outside the city.
