IIRC in the Abyss, the breathing fluid was real and the rat was actually breathing it on film (the scene got censored for the UK release due to perceived animal cruelty). Bud, however, wore a helmet full of coloured water and held his breath.

In Event Horizon, the crew still breathe gas through masks. The medic mentions in the opening scene: "When the ion drive engages, we'll be pulling about 20 Gs. Without a tank, the force would liquefy your skeleton." Another comment notes that breathing gas is still viable to about 20G, above which fluid breathing would be required.

Clearly doesn't live in the UK...

Bought myself a brand new USB one in 2020 to WFH. I fully understand why people love these keyboards cos I do as well. It's so nice to type on. Unmistakable clacky action and very nicely weighted keys that are easy to press. I make far fewer mistakes on it than any other keyboard I've used.

They do need a lot of power to operate though - mine doesn't like being plugged straight into my laptop, it would occasionally stop responding and need replugging. It plugs into a dock instead.

Numatic are well established and these are very popular machines, so it's a fairly safe bet - there's an excellent market for replacement bags so it's in their interests to keep making them. For lesser brands, definitely a problem though.

Presumably it'd be like Tonka - if someone does break one, the company will spirit the remains away to learn from it and make the next version even stronger...

I also have a Dyson. The company now is a bit awful but their older root-cyclone models are very good. I don't expect it to outlive me, but it's reliable, well built and maintainable. Bought this DC-08 secondhand and it keeps working. Performs well too.

This is very true, the Henry does compensate with an enormous dust collector. Though, can be a pain when you finally do fill it up and you find you don't have any spares because it's been so long!

My cleaner has washable HEPA filters. I just prefer not to throw away containers.

The one problem I have with Henrys is that they're still bagged. A bagless one without needing consumables would be awesome.

Otherwise, yep, there's a VERY good reason why most cleaning companies use these machines - they are the Hiluxes of vacuum cleaners. My grandmother bought one and it does its job extremely well.
