if you really want a scenic drive and don’t mind tacking on a bit of time you should make your way to route 16 in NH. It will bring you to plenty of backroads in VT and then State Route 3 to Route 110 which has plenty of scenic views. Route 16 is well known for the scenery and has lots of tourism attractions like pinkham notch and conway area. Follow route 16 all the way to the Dover area and you can hop right on I95 to bring you south to boston or anywhere south. Hope this helps

Edit: This is the route that I take to Montréal all the time and I love the drive.
