You can do both actually. Quality of production is very important to me when listening to music. You can really appreciate it using some proper audio gear. Also...

I'm aware of my portable headphones being not exactly neutral. I have a possibility to be much closer to Harmann using a decent parametric EQ in Qudelix 5K.

But I prefer "listening to headphones". It's a part of this hobby. Aside from music, which I love, I enjoy feeling the character, sound profile of any headphones I use.

"Perfect" headphones probably wouldn't be my favourite. What I find interesting in headphones is nuances in timbre, idiosyncrasies. It's not just a device to deliver music. It's different for everyone what kind of sound they prefer.

It's the same argument in photography. There's this cliche saying "it's the photographer that matters, not the camera" which is often interpreted as "if you have an iPhone and some talent, you can take fantastic pictures. Maybe, some in proper situations, but generally no, you can't.

Gear matters.
