So, obviously, no one ever needs a new phone when they have last years' model, unless you broke or lost it. With that said, before upgrading, I consistently read on the internet, on Reddit, in YouTube reviews, and even from friends, that going from the 13PM to the 14PM was an inconsequential upgrade.
But for me, just to offer my two cents to anyone with the 13PM still wondering about maybe upgrading, I think it's a bigger year-over-year upgrade over the 13 Pro Max than the 13 PM was over the 12 Pro Max.
The big two things from 12 to 13 was 120 hz screen and the notch getting smaller. The 120 hz is a huge upgrade. But the Dynamic Island and Always On Display (which I love without a background, personally; it's less distracting) are two much more noticeable, truly functional differences.
The Dynamic Island needs more third-party support to truly be maximized, sure, but it's the first truly NEW thing in years. And it feels like it. Phone calls look sick. Having sports scores up there is really cool. Spotify displaying what you're listening to is really nice. And the always on display let's you see notifications without picking up your phone, and if you're like me, once you pick it up, you've probably just surrendered no less than 30 seconds of your life scrolling something. Being able to see without touching is really helpful, actually, to reduce phone usage.
I know the chip didn't upgrade much, the phone body is almost identical, and at this point, the cameras have honestly been so good that those updates feel almost imperceptible, and that the camera bump and weight increased, but I think if you're able to get out of your 13 PM by selling/trading it in at a price that's fair, the new battery, Dynamic Island and Always on display make this feel like a really good upgrade. Better than last years.
