Pizza here kind of sucks compared to italian pizza (ours is mostly Greek style) so don't get your boyfriend's hopes up, haha. Other than that, seeing a lot of good reccos in this thread already.

Liars Bench and Earth eagle are definitely breweries to check out in portsmout. Earth eagle has some good (interesting food, even more interesting beer). But there's a lot of good food in portsmouth outside of the breweries as well.

Sounds like you'd also be into Book & Bar (portsmouth).

In Dover, Garrison City Brewing is def worth checking out. Empty Pint is not.

If you go north, it's def worth stopping in Concord at Feathered Friend Brewing - open every day.

Maybe some actual training? Or maybe PDs stop hiring cops straight out of the military as an incentive, as if it's the same job?

Concord for example:

"Four years of active duty military experience is one of the ways to satisfy our minimum requirements for the police officer position." - I personally think that's horseshit. This shouldn't be a thing. The two don't translate.

It's a cool building, and such a cool contraption. But I'm getting kind of tired of the people in Concord trying to preserve it. Seems like there's WAY WORTHIER causes to put money behind in town.....

  • It likely can't be used, as it is basically a toxic mess.
  • they don't even really know what it CAN be used for in the future
  • They say it will "Serve as a catalyst for community development" in the south end, which is malarkey. Places in the south end like Smoke Show, S&W, and Feathered Friends are already doing that. An old, lopsided building we probably can't use isn't going to accomplish that.

I guess I just get why it can't be taken apart and re-assembled in a museum. The NH historical society already runs one place in Concord that hardly anyone goes to.

They will usually re-inspect for no charge within 30 days. Don't think it's the law though --- it takes them time, it costs them money.

Concord: you can be in a rural part of town hiking, biking, or swimming one hour and downtown at a brewery or distillery the next.

The cons -- Things tend to get quiet pretty early, and for some reason the town thinks we need 16 mattress stores and 100 banks.

Your enjoyment of the state will be entirely dependent on understanding where you need to fall on the spectrum of "access to ample dating" and "access to ample skiing".

Seacoast will be easiest for dating and socializing -- while being a bit more of a haul to mountains. Then there are SOME gems like dover / concord / or maybe even the hanover/white river junction aea (enclaves of single people there because of Dartmouth hospital and college) that are closer to mountains with a moderately healthy population of single, professional 30somethings. Burlington is also a solid option for balancing dating + skiing.

But if you don't have luck dating in one of these smaller, more northerly towns/cities -- I can see it getting frustrating.

depending on budget, I'd look into....

- Portsmouth / Portland / Newburyport

- Hampton/Rye (try to snatch a seasonal rental for the year)

- Dover

- Concord

- Burlington
