I disagree. Hip hop IS modern jazz. Old Jazz is very restrictive. Almost every standard is based on the ii-V-I chord progression, and in 4/4. The instrumentation is very predictable, and since Charlie Parker, basically every jazz musician has the same way of phrasing. It’s a genre that is comprised mostly of melodic cliches that were established in the 40s and 50s. Jazz fans always want to hear the same shit at every gig. The only people who are pushing jazz forward are hip hop artists like madlib, Robert Glasser and terrace Martin. Don’t get me wrong, A Love Supreme is one of my favorite records of all time. But in 2023, hip hop is what Jazz turned into.

You’d also have to boycott all the tracks he produced. and Roc-a-fella records and Def Jam records.

Or Instead of boycotting music because the artist is a shitty person, you could boycott major corporations like Amazon or Facebook. That might actually matter.

It’ll probably sound like every other pop record that’s coming out right now.

If my significant other made my records disappear, id be smacking a bitch. Stealing someone’s records in like stealing part of their soul.

Trust me, I’ve been playing guitar my whole life and professionally since college. Cats who can REALLY play at a high level would never put down a beginner. and they are almost always open with their knowledge. They don’t have to tell you how great they are, because their music does that for them. This dude ain’t shit. I’d just focus on your own progress and don’t pay his comments any mind. Make your sword a little sharper each day and you’ll be playing circles around Mr. know it all.

If he is acting like that it’s probably because he’s not that good, and he’s insecure about it. People who can really play don’t act like that. They are willing to explain things, and they will encourage beginners.
