Can you go to Providence instead and rent the car there? It is right off of 95 and there are no tunnels. The airport is a mess to get in and out of if you don't know where you are going and GPS is often a few seconds behind where you need it to be so you should consider a different route

Before you get here, investigate on requirements for teachers who are coming from other states. You need to take this test: https://www.doe.mass.edu/mtel/ to teach in the state within a specific number of years/months. There is a teacher shortage so it might not be as necessary to begin with but will be required. Also, join the union the first day that you can. If it was more affordable, I would suggest the Cape since they have a huge need for therapists and teachers, but check out southern NH along Essex County or the Worcester area.

You might also want to stop by the Historical Society to see what documentation they have on it. While they probably won't have blueprints or things like that, they probably have images of it through the years that would explain some of the alterations through the years.

Looking at newspapers.com, I've found an article about him leaving for the Navy in 1943, winning a penmanship contest in 1932, and being a bearer for the coffin of Madeline Fitzgerald in 1980.

Its harder to find the reason between familial splits, or the true reason, as everyone has their own view of the reason why something happens.

Difficult to find vital records for the last 50 years or so since the last census we have is from 1950 and other records are protected for x # of years

It is more about what you are comfortable with, especially if something breaks and you have to react on the fly. When we were in London there was a tube strike and we had to scramble a bit, luckily a Bobby was able to help us out. Boston is wicked safe so don't really worry about that.

If you don't want to stay right downtown, look at Somerville, Quincy, Cambridge, Malden, Revere. Many of the hotels do a pick up/drop off situation from the local transit stop.

Avoid coming over the 3rd week of April, everything is expensive and full.

One of the most useful books I've run into lists street name origins: https://www.google.com/books/edition/A_Record_of_the_Streets_Alleys_Places_Et/ss5HAQAAMAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0

Not sure if those streets are in it, but its actually a really helpful book if you are a geography nerd or need to figure out where someone lived when the name doesn't exist anymore

The flags at Faneuil Hall are historic ones, so you'll be able to buy a Grand Union, Bunker Hill, Charlestown, and Don't Tread on Me flags. These are the same flags you can get at the Charlestown Navy Yard Visitor Center. I believe you can get some 1812 era flags at the USS Constitution Museum. There aren't really places to buy a MA flag or city flag anywhere downtown, would be easier to order it online probably.

Most libraries have museum passes for all of these museums that are mentioned. You can get discounted or free access as long as you book it ahead of time.

You will also be near a few historical national parks and only a 4-6 hour (depending on traffic) ride to Acadia, our only National Park park. The National Seashore runs along the Cape and the seal tours are really fun, just keep an eye out for great whites. One went under a tour boat the week before we went out.

Ticks are an issue, so don't forget to prepare for that!

You also need to inquire about flood insurance and how much it would be if you are thinking about moving to a coastal place like Salem.

I would also suggest coming in the winter (not this one cause it hasn't arrived yet) but you need to know what it is like to be near the ocean in the winter and how dark it gets here before you move

Is your pilot light on?

I might call the fire department for some help, they might come over. MHL is open as a warming center and you could walk over and talk to the fd next door.

You are probably in a room that was added to the pipes or at the end of the exchange so all the heat is gone by the time it gets to you.

The plastice over windows technique will keep the wind out, but it can get frustrating. You might also get in trouble when you take it off since the tape often rips off paint.

Another option is to get fire resistant foam and put it inside the window. Get it just a little larger and then shove it in. That will help a lot with both the cold and noise.

Space heaters can be dangerous, use up a lot of electricty, and are often noisy. Maybe buy an electric heated blanket instead or hot water bottle for your bed. Good luck!

Park at Wellington or Sullivan Square and take the t in from there. Alternatively, the commuter rail from Haverhill or any of the northern stops that have parking. The North End is a PITA for parking if you aren't confident in parallel parking or dealing with buses, cars, bikes, pedestrians, and the occasional 3 point turn for the fire trucks in the neighborhood

Had a grocery store employee offer to pay for my groceries when I couldn't find my wallet once. My dad was sick again and it was snowing and I was so sad about the whole situation that I just walked out. When I got home, my wallet with everything in it was waiting for me in my mudroom. I must have dropped it in the parking lot and someone drove it to my house. Totally didn't expect it and really appreciated that someone took the time to be good to me with no real reason to be.

Don't use AllTrails solely. Please get yourself a good set of maps. Too many people lose service and get off trail and either damage the environment or need rescue. AMC maps are great. Different MA DCR sites have maps at the trailhead (and online versions you can print or view ahead of time) at their individual sites that you can see here: https://www.mass.gov/lists/dcr-trail-maps.

This is my preferred site for the Whites: https://bmhatfield.github.io/white-mountains/.

But please bring a real map with you when you are going out beyond the Blue Hills, Fells, or your local trails.

We had an entire floor of a triple in Eastie for $1200 which included heat (cause we didn't have access to a dial) and then moved down the street into a single family for just over 200k between 2008 and 2011. I think it was soon after that when prices started to just soar.
