Both Discovery and HBO are going to be hubs on the new service, they're not burying any brand. If anything, the removal of HBO from the name will only help with the confusion of HBO Max ≠ HBO, that was already an extra explanation for most people. The price would still increase at some point even without the combination.

Afaik, HBO does that too, at least with their current or recently finished programming, they always post Tiktoks, YouTube Shorts and make posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. They also do that with movies that return to HBO Max.

When an episode from an HBO original ends, they usually post looks inside the episode and the teaser for the next one on YouTube.

Casey has been with HBO for over 2 decades now and he's responsible for a lot of great shows, that's why he was promoted to CEO of HBO this year.

Jason Kilar was responsible for Christopher Nolan leaving Warner Bros for Universal.

Succession is coming next spring or summer. The Idol, Somebody Somewhere and The White House Plumbers are expected too.

Merging the two streaming services makes sense when they're both owned by the same company.

>Quality is what matters. Quality is what Casey and that team is delivering. It’s the best team in the business. We’re doubling down on that HBO team. They’re all committed under contract and we’re going to spend dramatically more this year and next year than we spent last year. HBO is one of the crown jewels of WBD.

So no TLOU won't be the last high quality big budget show.
