My partner's best friend bought a house in a nice working class neighborhood in Philly for like $200k last year, and that was in the midst of a record surge in real estate valuation nationwide. I don't get it! It's a great city and it's right in the most expensive corridor of the country, and yet it has small market or large midwest/southern city prices.

Not to mention New York is a few hours in the opposite direction. The northeast in general is just wicked expensive – with the possible exception of Philly, which somehow has Providence or lesser prices in many neighborhoods/suburbs despite being a major metro area situated directly between NY and DC.

The centered building is the Textron headquarters. I believe the tallest building pictured here (One Financial Plaza) has either Bank of America or Santander as the primary tenant.

Bottles and Nikki’s are the best in Providence that I know of. Really good selection at both places, though Bottles is probably a bit pricier since it’s over by Wayland Square.

Mount Pleasant or Elmhurst would likely make your commute a little easier, but Fed Hill is much more active (lots of fun bars, restaurants, etc. and you can walk or bike to downtown). Depends on the lifestyle you're looking for – if you don't mind a quiet residential area that's a little bit removed from the action, I'd look at western MP or Elmhurst. If you want to be right in the heart of everything, I vote Fed Hill or even parts of the West End.

Providence is small compared to the Twin Cities, so it's easy to get around if that's a concern. We live in Elmhurst and often go to places over on the East Side. It's never more than like 15 minutes via car, or 25-30 via bike/scooter. The bus system is also pretty good for a city this size, although they're having a labor shortage right now that's affecting service (hopefully that's resolved by the time you move here!).

Not since they cancelled the old midnight train a few years ago (RIP). There might be a bus that late, but I’m honestly not sure. If you can drive up to a T stop with parking that’s your best bet. Quincy Adams is on the red line and has a big garage, that’s what I would recommend so you miss the bulk of 93 traffic going up.
