From Wiki: The dome is "the fourth largest self-supported marble dome in the world"
Could’ve sworn it was second, but maybe that’s in the US. I think the Minnesota state house has a larger self-supported dome IIRC

I’m not aware of a RIPTA-specific bus tracker app, but both apple and google maps do a pretty good job of keeping up with it if you use the “transit” map setting. They seem to have access to real-time data, at least in my experience.

The water here is very clean and safe to drink, but many (most?) of the pipes are wicked old and can cause an unpleasant taste in your tap water. Our fridge crapped the bed last year, so we got a new one that has a filter built in. it’s been a very noticeable difference, but we never got sick from drinking the tap water and did so every day for almost a year.

I find the membership worth it if you’re planning to live here for years to come, it’s like $150 for life and you get two 5% off deals per month + compost access. Worth looking into if that’s your thing!

Urban Greens has compost bins, but you have to be a member to use them (though it’s really not enforced).

No official sources, but someone on this sub posted about it a while ago so I decided to try it when I got one a few months ago. Nothing happened. It’s not on my record or anything and there are no late charges because, again, they can’t actually enforce anything since it’s a private contractor operating on behalf of the city.

Friendly reminder that you don’t have to pay tickets from these cameras since they’re run through a third party that cannot legally enforce your payment!

You gotta check out Rasoi, it’s the best in town (technically in Pawtucket but it’s across the street from India)

Ugh, the English Cellar used to have a bunch of board games but they’ve been closed for years now. It was so fun! Granted, I absolutely love Heng Thai which replaced it.

Of course! Happy to dispel any other myths you might hear about Providence. The news has convinced a lot of people that it’s a crime-ridden hellscape when it’s really one of the safer cities of its size in the country. I live a few minutes away from the area where you’re looking and drive through there often. It’s a nice working/middle class residential neighborhood. You’ll get some foot traffic from high school kids after school ends and occasional faint noise from LaSalle football games at night, but other than that, it’s a peaceful and pleasant area.

Don’t listen to that guy, the area around Mt. Pleasant High is incredibly safe. It’s a quiet residential neighborhood, mostly single family houses. If you go down Chalkstone a bit toward downtown, it gets a little dicey, but even then it’s not one of the more dangerous parts of the city.

I would always buy Amtrak in advance if you know which train you want to take. It sells out pretty frequently, especially over a holiday weekend.
Or take the commuter rail.

This Twitter thread from Tiara Mack is the best explainer I’ve seen anywhere, which is frustrating.
Disclaimer: I don’t want to impose views or force an agenda on people who may or may not disagree with it, so take this thread with a grain of salt if you don’t consider yourself to be left-leaning. But to date, it’s kind of the only thing I’ve come across that breaks down the actual implications of each ballot measure, and I sure wish it had been posted before I voted early last weekend.
