This isn’t just a Sonic thing…CT/New England does not embrace fast food culture the way other states in the south and Midwest do.

These jobs are highly looked down on in CT.

There was a time 20+ years ago where promising high school students would take these jobs and had respect and a goal to be good at their job, even if it’s just part time help. The owners were often also the managers and had pride in their business.

This has changed completely. This is not a discriminatory statement, it’s a culture issue.

Many of the fast food restaurants have been acquired by non-Americans in CT. These folks do not grow up in a fast food culture and only purchase the business for monetary gain. Similar to purchasing a gas station. There is (culture wise) no sense of employee engagement. Their belief is that employees are meant to work and complete tasks for their pay. This is also the same for organizations that own multiple locations. Their leadership has no concern for the success of each location, just making sure volume/inventory is correct.

This leads to high turnover and burnout with American employees. And because the jobs themselves are not regarded highly, you are already dealing with individuals who do not want to be at that job.

Chic Fil A’s model is respectable in that they only sell one location to one owner. The Owner is expected for that to be their full time job. This is why Chic Fil A always feels polite, clean, and quick. The owner is very close by and invested and engaged in its success.

This is not the same when you go to other parts of the US. The positions are still respected (in some places) because opportunities are not as easily available. So you still pull from a base of applicants with skill.

The best bet is to let these fast food restaurants go out of business up here. A new wave of restaurants will take their place and the owners will have to be vested in their success because they won’t have a standard model that you roll out

This is going to spiral into a Cops are a problem thing because it’s Reddit.

Overdose pictures are helpful. Drugs impact everyone and anyone. I found these types of things to be terrifying and a reason why when presented with opportunities to try certain drugs, I wouldn’t even consider it for a second.

You want to see what a normal kid from the burbs looks like if they get addicted?

It’s like the recreation of DUI accidents that schools used to put on.

The imagery sticks in your head to scare you

Grew up here, went to college in New Hampshire, lived in a suburb of Atlanta, Suburb of Philadelphia, and Tampa.

Suburb of Atl (Alpharetta) was nice. I could’ve made a life there but I was young and not ready to settle.

Horsham PA was not bad but it didn’t feel like home. I didn’t like Philadelphia as a city. Id isn’t know it well but it did not feel safe.

Florida is not New England. I love New England suburbs, neighborhoods, towns. Each town in CT has a feel to it that I can’t describe but it’s safe, beautiful, quiet, warming. Also CT fall is better than any weather out there. Late August through October is unbeatable. I couldn’t stand the Florida heat. It never leaves. Christmas doesn’t feel like Christmas.

I don’t know… hard to describe but CT just feels right. I get the same vibes in MA, VT, ME also

I was never really looking for a “community” when I joined and found myself turning down weekly invites to grab drinks or just hang out.

I found it later in life when I had a family and no time for developing new friendships.

But I have always thought, if I ever needed to develop a group of friends and didn’t know where to start - a Crossfit gym would be like kindling to get a fire started

Join Naugatuck Valley Crossfit.

I am 100% serious and this is not some Crossfit sales pitch.

Within a week you will have a community and folks to chat with, hang out at the gym, go to happy hour.

Physical fitness level does not matter. You’ll be accepted immediately.

Hey bud,

I just saw your post and read through your profile.

I can’t address the flat tire situation but

If you have a car and are employable - Sodexho in New Britain is hiring at a solid rate per hour (no degree necessary). Also Target in Southington or there is a new Trader Joe’s in glastonbury opening up next week. Instacart is not sustainable.

CT is a very expensive state and not a place to live in your car.

If you need help finding a job to apply for or with your resume, message me.

It is not safe.

It is legal.

We used to jump off the front of a (big) boat in the river (against the current)…..and by the time you come up, you are already at the back of the boat. We are all great swimmers and if we would miss the ladder on our way up we couldn’t swim back to the boat. The boat would have to come back and get us. Swimming to shore wouldn’t have been possible.

Shouldn’t have chased him. You let the person go. It’s only a car, it can be replaced.

The innocent victim was just stealing a car. He probably had a troubled home life and just needs hugs.

The nerve of the monster that decided to stop the young man from trying to feed his family! Put him in jail and throw away the key

I’ve lived in multiple cities in the US and abroad including Chicago and Atlanta.

CT is know for its suburbs. CT is a commuter state. People don’t live in Middletown for “city life”. Go hang out at the bars and restaurants in downtown and ask people where they live.

West Hartford, Stamford, Fairfield have city life like you are referencing.

Hartford, CT is a ghost town after 6 pm. Do Not Live there.

Love the downvotes….if you think Middletown is a great town you have wool over your eyes.

Just check the Middletown School ratings, always an easy indicator of the quality of a town in Connecticut. They rank in the bottom quarter with below average test scores, far below average reading and below avg graduation rates.

They see also in the top quarter for crime.

I realize Middletown once had some great areas not too long ago and some of those folks stayed, but it’s a decaying town for safety. People 20 years ago said the same thing about New Britain… the problem is that the towns only get worse. Families with a choice move out.

Except for the fact that Cromwell, Rocky Hill, and Glastonbury are considered safe towns and crime statistics do not place any of them in the category that Middletown sits.

Middletown is just below the major cities in CT in crime data. Waterbury, Bridgeport, Hartford, New London, New Britain, Meriden, Hamden are the top of the field for non-ideal towns. Middletown sits in the next category.

What Middletown had going for it is the high number of condo and apartments in their safe zone on the Cromwell side as well as their country side on the Middlefield/Durham border. Towns like Meriden and New Britain do not have those zones which makes the violent crime rates one notch higher.

Can you be safe in Middletown?- sure. But I don’t know why someone who has a choice would go there. You can have the same rent prices, much safer immediate surroundings, and an easy commute in the surrounding towns of Middletown.

I am a former Middletown resident of 8 years and extremely familiar with the town and each of the surrounding towns. I enjoyed Middletown for condo Heaven when I was younger and being able to socialize with surrounding complexes. It was a nice younger lifestyle. As soon as kids were on the table…vroom…..

If you think Middletowns school system is ideal, you are not looking. It’s a war zone

All anecdotal stuff above and this is very hard to answer depending on what your level of safety is.

The real answer is that most people with a choice would not choose Middletown for rent unless it is a section away from downtown, like in the “Condo Heaven” section on the Cromwell line.

Downtown Middletown/Main street houses a homeless shelter and is a haven for poverty, drugs, and crime. It’s ok to visit for a night out because of the restaurants/bars but you don’t want to live there.

My advice would be Cromwell, Rocky Hill, or Glastonbury if you are looking to rent. You can visit Middletown anytime, no need to live there

Dragging is a term that the media is using for you to click on the article. The police officer let go. The criminal is under arrest for violating motor vehicle racing requirements, reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, engaging police in pursuit, illegally striking an officer with a motor vehicle, illegal racing on a highway, interfering with officer/resisting arrest, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree reckless endangerment
