VTSAX is the entire us stock market. That is plenty diversified. You can think about bonds or international.

Hex is just a more human readable version of 4 bits (4 different 0/1 values). A byte is 8 bits which have 256 possible values

I did not know that. I am glad that they are going away. Leap seconds are annoying to deal with.

As the other commenters have said, it does not change the Earth's orbit, but it can change its rotation. Think of it like a figure skater bringing her arms in to spin faster. The same thing can happen if an earthquake brings mass closer to the center of the Earth (lower elevation)
