Based on the Reddit comments, the top three longest-lasting items are:

  1. Cast iron pans: These pans are known for their durability and can last for decades, even over a century. They can be passed down through generations and still maintain their quality.
  2. KitchenAid stand mixer: Many users have reported using their mixers for 20 years or more, with some even using their grandmother's mixers from the 1920s. The design has remained relatively unchanged, and the mixers are known for their reliability and longevity.
  3. Leather items (e.g., belts, jackets, and bags): Leather products, when properly cared for, can last for many years. Users have reported using leather belts and jackets for over a decade, and some have even used leather bags for 30 years or more.

The idea is to find the most popular brands and products across Reddit based on discussion volume and sentiment.

Source: https://looria.com/reddit/tools/brands

Tools: PRAW, spacy, BERT, chart.js

Data: r/Tools

Methodology: Named Entity Recognition "NER" applied to comments and posts until one year back. I then ran sentiment analysis on the data to find out if it's a positive or negative opinion (after filtering out ambiguous mentions).

What ranks surprise you? Any other subreddits I should look at?

We never hear about broken or worn out products. The goal of r/productfails is to learn how products performed over their lifetime, where they break, and how to fix them.

Data: polls on r/productfails with 150 - 300 votes. I'm well aware that this data is not representative, but this is a good start to raise awareness about product longevity and repairability - more to come.

We see many requests for good mattresses here, so I compiled a list of the most popular brands on Reddit. The idea is to have two dimensions for popularity: discussion volume and sentiment.

Source: https://looria.com/reddit/mattress/brands

Methodology: A machine learning method called Named Entity Recognition "NER" applied to comments and posts on r/mattress until two years back. I then ran sentiment analysis on the data to find out if it's a positive or negative opinion (after filtering out ambiguous mentions).

Any ranks surprise you? Any positive or negative experiences?
