You could do well to combine two recommendations on the thread.

Put down a layer of duroroc or cement board, which will fill up a good chunk of the height for cheap. Then some self leveling compound for the remainder, which means a safer cheaper single 3/4 inch pour.

Then, instead of laminate, get wood effect tiles. Not much more expensive but totally waterproof

So just to keep your touchstone prices in perspective, a private company near me performs diagnostic radiography.

If you are worried about a sports injury or something, you can make a booking and get an MRI, and one of their doctors will provide a report. GPS, physiotherapists etc will recommend getting scans done before treatment.

After this private clinic makes it's profit, and with no insurance involved, it's 200 dollars for an MRI. First world European country, where everyone is making plenty of profit.

You guys get hosed.

You get a gypsum based adhesive for putting the drywall directly on surfaces. Call dot and dab attaching. Just cut out a square of drywall, throw a handfull of adhesive on the wall and stick in the square.

For a pro tip, cut the patch a few inches oversize, and cut off the plaster on the excess leaving the paper attached. put a layer of jointing compound under where the paper overlaps the old drywall and it'll be much easier to feather out and blend later
