This happened to my dad. They somehow forgot that he had a bronze star. They just no corrected that oversite (it was from Vietnam, I think everyone on that hill got one).

Guns are a religion to some here. Some people believe the constitution was divinely inspired (not shitting you) so basically everything in it (well up until reconstruction) was sent from on high.
You can't question the 2nd amendment or the current interpretation of the 2nd amendment w/out questioning the whole religion.
