How has "society" offloaded onto parents? What is this "society" that is supposed to raise, discipline, and educate children in lieu of parents? If anything, its the other way around.

A lot of us in "society" are sick of the problem children and adoleacents not being raised by their parents. The juveniles stealing cars and joyriding wrecklessly on the roads, the gangs of young men riding around like @ssholes on atvs and dirtbikes, the physical violence being perpetuated by a growing number of youth...all who now face little consequence from our justice system.

If we tried to ingrain the "success sequence" and some tried and true moral virtue into youth it might go a long way. But the romantic progressives hate that.

Its fascinating the amount of attention this subreddit gives to things like Eversource, traffic on the Merrit, pizza, and other unimportant cultural touchstones, but a lunatic murders a 1 yr old child and its pretty much silence.

Cop does something bad...the ACAB crowd is out in force.

But a criminal, with multiple priors does something absolutely heinous and the progressive crowd has nothing to say. In any other thread, a discussion about our soft-on-crime policies or trend towards light sentencing gets shouted down as being too punitive and harmful to the offenders, who are of course victims of the "system."

So given this context, I'd love to hear from some of the romantic progressives about how this guy doesnt deserve to be locked away for life (or worse), or about how this is the fault of the police, or capitalism, or...whatever flavor-of-the-day structural issue of your choosing.

Any business in Hartford is either paying property taxes or rent which in turn had a property owner paying taxes to the city. And the sales tax goes to the state...part of which goes back to Hartford.

Yes, and Hartford receives a disproportionate amount (both overall and per capita) compared to other municipalities.

In addition to PILOT, cities like Hartford receive Education Cost Sharing (ECS) and municipal aid funds from the state to bolster their education and general operating budgets, respectively. Cities also receive state and federal grants for specific programs and capital improvement projects. Last I checked, roughly 50% of Hartford's yearly budget was supplied from state coffers.
