Reply to ELI5 how do game patches work? by redlunarwolff
The patch would replace a lot of old files if its a performance or bug fix patch. If it's a feature addition or new content then it would increase the size of the install.

Reply to ELI5 why can't you just plug in electric cars / why do you need a wall charger when it could just be built in by definetlynotaalien
You would have to build in 4 different kinds of plugs, normal plugs, big dryer plugs, level 2 charging plugs and fast charging plugs. Instead of having 4 differnt plugs it's easire to have one socket and have the different plugs at the place you charge. A lot of cars do come with an adapater so you can just plug into a normal outlet though that you carry with your car.

Reply to ELI5: Representation of Non Terminating Real Numbers on the Number Line by ProfessionalAd7023
The numbers we can "easily" plot on a number line are the constructible numbers, those that the ancient greeks worked with that can be made with a ruler and a compass. The constructible numbers are a tiny tiny subset of all the real numbers. Being able to be esily found on a numberline is not part of the definition of a Real number. All the Real numbers are there on the numberline but being able to easily find them has nothing to do with being Real.

Modern apartments don't have fireplaces and chimneys to safely have fires to warm your house. The people of Germany and Ukraine didn't spend all summer and fall cutting down trees and storing firewood for the winter. Medieval Europe's economy basically completely shut down in the winter.

Reply to ELI5 : How come that the biggest tech company products, like Windows OS can be cracked and used for free while apps made by small companies have a strict paywall impossible to break? by [deleted]
Windows doesn't make most of their money off regular folks installing Windows. They make their money from businesses buying licenses for all their staff and from computer makers buying licensees to preinstall windows on your HP laptop. They want normal people to just use Windows by default so they don't care if the guy that built his custom gaming rig doesn't pay for Windows.
