Well, the iPhone 14 Plus has about double the battery capacity than the iPhone 8 Plus.
4323 mAh against 2691 mAh. You might want to use a 20W charger.

It's comparable because the flagship iPhones at the time were the XS and XS Max. The XR was released alongside them.
The iPhone 5C was released the same day as the iPhone 5S.

They did try it again, it's called the iPhone XR which became one of Apple's best selling iPhone in 2019.
The iPhone XR was so popular that when the iPhone 12 series came out the 12 Pro has the same screen size as the XR and 11 with 6.1 inches.

There's no TouchID but you can just use a pin to unlock your phone.

Well, there's a lot to expect. Here's a list:
- OLED screen that is larger and brighter
- Face ID
- No telephoto camera but has an ultrawide camera
- Night mode on all cameras
- Autofocus on the front camera
- A15 Bionic with 5 GPU cores

The best one for your money currently is the iPhone 13 Pro / Pro Max but Apple discontinued selling them since introducing the iPhone 14 Pros. You would have to go to carrier stores or third-party stores to buy it.
The best one that is still in Apple's iPhone lineup is the iPhone 13 because of its price but it doesn't have the telephoto camera and no autofocus on the front camera.

The iPhone 14 Plus doesn't have an ultrawide lens with autofocus so you would have to pull back because of the lenses have large apertures.
