edit:this is going by contemporary US law. Not sure what laws are like elsewhere in the world and I doubt leaving a child unsupervised would count as neglect in the 1800s

For point two, I would say that it is not a capable human adult and is under your care. You're as responsible for its actions as you would be for yout child's or those of a pet of yours

I'm having trouble understanding a lot of explanations of different neural networks online because I can't wrap my head around any of the diagrams. Any good resources that do a good job linking the diagrams to the mathematical equations because I am completely lost
