They look similar to the plastic wall anchors I removed recently. Just grabbed an edge with pliers and twisted/pulled. Came out easily, but a few chips. YMMV.

In Australia we can put our phone in a holder, and use it as a live GPS. It's fantastic for early warning of crashes, roadworks, speed cameras, etc.
