I’m aging into a love of old houses. What’s your favorite part of your Oma’s 300 year old house? What’s her favorite part?

I went to my first Girls Who Walk RVA event last night at The Park and had a lot of fun. I will say I went in determined to spend no money and they got…more than $0 out of me somehow. I’m usually stronger.

I almost didn’t go because I worried that most everyone would already know each other and I’d be the odd person out. I’m glad I took the chance because I met some great people. If you’re also tryna make friends, let this be your sign to be brave!

I found Facebook decor groups that match my interests. I’m a maximalist at heart (after lying to myself for years that I’m a minimalist because I don’t like clutter) and I’m in a group called Moody Maximalism that kind of spans the spectrum of interpretations of “maximalism.” I get my decor ideas from the subset of posts there that speak to me. This time of year a lot of people are posting their Christmas decor setups.

I have also seen some good stuff on r/AmateurRoomPorn and r/femalelivingspace, and a lot of the content there is decidedly not-beige.

Same, mostly. I have a small retro ceramic tree that I put up after Halloween. It’s nostalgic, brings me joy, and fits in a compact box in my closet. It’s really the only holiday decoration I have because I don’t like storing things I only use once a year.

My family unit is very small, and since I (the youngest) entered adulthood we’ve been very disorganized and informal about holidays. This year I finally realized that’s why I don’t enjoy going home for said holidays — we sit around and do nothing special for the requisite few hours before calling it quits, dad always shows up late, my sister always gets stressed, yadda yadda.

I feel guilty for not wanting to go home because I do love them and I do feel grateful that I have them. I just would rather visit them on a random weekend than Thanksgiving. But! Duty calls, and I’ll catch up on the It’s Always Sunny podcast on the drive down.

It’s going to be a good week. Yesterday I got a tattoo at anime ink con, so I’ve got a really gorgeous wound I’m working on healing up. Starting the last week of the job that I’ve been unhappy in for a long time. Excited to transition to something new!

Drinking coffee and watching the bird feeder with my cat. Invasive plant removal at the Buttermilk Trail later this morning, then the craft expo this afternoon!
