Cue the haters who will comment saying how stupid the name is and that they wish it was a venue that would host anything else but. Admittedly the name is a little silly. For those who don’t know or didn’t read the article it’s a Sun Ra reference. Yeah yeah, we get it. Everything is Sun Ra. Sun Ra is everything. 🙄 But as a fan of ARS Nova shows for many years now, I’m very excited that this place exists and can easily get past the name. I’ve lived in the area for a good while now. I went to the second ever boot and saddle show, have talked with old timers at work about the original boot and I also frequent fountain porter. The original boot and saddle was great but the acts that came through have many places to book in this city. The kind of shows that Solar Myth puts on puts us in contention with NYC for acts that would potentially otherwise pass us over. I’ve been to three shows now and the energy is amazing. Many shows have been selling out and people are showing up. Also to note on the boot and saddle name. R5 owns that name. ARS was not allowed to name the venue boot and saddle. They probably wouldn’t have but it was never an option. The sign itself is a historic landmark and can’t be taken down. Not that ARS would. The music is not for everyone but those who are into it and into it. I’d say search the act’s coming through and give a listen. If something peeks your interest come out. Although recordings of the music for a lot of these acts don’t translate to live performances honestly. Very different vibe. But it’s also just a bar. Grab a coffee, grab a beer. Relax. Check it out. Or don’t. Go birds. 🫡
