You’ll file this Sunday but it is very possible you earned too much in three days of work for this to count as your waiting week.

Take your UC benefit and add 30%, that’s your combination rate. If your gross earnings for the week are under that figure, it’s a good waiting week. If it’s over, won’t count as your waiting week.

Severance delay is a math formula. That link explains how it works. You need your gross severance and your normal weekly gross wage. Let’s say your severance was $40k. First thing is subtract the threshold amount for that year so $40k-$22k = $18k. The $18k is the deductible severance value. You divide that by your normal weekly gross, let’s say $2k. $18k/$2k= 9 week severance delay. In the example that claimant would not be eligible for benefits during the first 9 weeks they were unemployed, the 10th week would be the unpaid waiting week, the 11th week would be the first payable week.

Severance determination needs to done by an Examiner. Sounds like your severance may have exceeded the threshold where it can delay receipt of benefits. For a claim filed in 2022 that would have been around $22k.

You said you filed on 12/17. What was you actual last day of work? UC’s weeks are a calendar week. If your last day was 12/16 and you applied 12/17 then your application date is Sunday of that week or 12/11. You were disqualified that week because you worked full time.

Week ending 12/24 would be your unpaid waiting week, but not if your severance was over the threshold.

What did you pick as your preferred correspondence method? Inbox, inbox with email or postal mail? Look in the message center on your dashboard. You should have a Claim Confirmation letter and a financial determination.

If your last day of work was the 8th, you wanted to submit the initial application during the week of 12/11 to 12/17. Application date is backdated to the Sunday of the week you apply. If you didn’t apply till this week, your application date is 12/18. You aren’t going to be able to claim week ending 12/17 without trying to get backdating.

Log in to your dashboard and click on Benefits Summary. Scroll down to the Open Issues table. Do you see anything? If not, you should be good. I suggest using a laptop or tablet to check this. The Open Issues section is a table and if there’s something there it is really hard to read on a phone.

Your claim application date will be shown under benefits summary as well. If you got a claim confirmation and your financial determination says you’re eligible and you don’t have any Open Issues, there’s no need to call.

On Sunday log in, click File Weekly Claim. Remember, first week of every new claim is the unpaid waiting week, so if your application date is 12/18, then week ending 12/24 will be your waiting week and week ending 12/31 will be your first payable week.
