Reply to Shelf life: Judging books by their covers. by nastratin
I won’t lie — there are definitely a few volumes on my bookshelves that are there more because they look interesting/attractive than because of their literary value. Helps to round out my collection of books, in a way.

I always recommend checking in with one of the librarians for any tips they might have. In addition to being amazing people, they’re also a great resource for suggestions and recommendations.

Used bookstores are one of my favorite places to be. I’ve often gone in and found myself leaving hours later with a dozen or more finds — sometimes needing a box to get them all home. There’s something about the unknown of what I’ll find that keeps me going back. I’ve discovered lots of authors by coming across their works in a disorganized pile buried in a used bookstore.

Reply to Listening to classical music while reading is amazing! by Ameliagonemad
A thousand times this. I was reading early 20th century fiction yesterday with the Met Opera on quietly in the background. Such an enjoyable afternoon.
