I have a Mitsubishi two zone for our main house and then a Fujitsu smaller unit for my office, both are doing just fine. The Fujitsu is a bit noisy. Both structures are insulated with spray foam and spent a fair amount of time air sealing. We also installed a ERV for fresh air. Overall things are warm.

We have a small portrait fireplace in the living room that makes it comfortable in the evenings.

We don’t change the thermostat up or down. We keep it at a constant 68F.

The only thing with the setup is that during Uber cold temps, it’s helpful to keep the bedroom doors cracked at night to allow heat in. It’s not a biggie to us.

Bottom line, Vermont is not convenient for stores, medical, travel, food delivery, high speed internet, and most of all good coffee. You’ll need multiple sets of tires and an awd vehicle.

Outdoor life is great.

Aldi is part of the Trader Joe’s family and while some think of it the bland white bread supermarket there are often times some real nice items to be found at a good price. Allot of overlap with traders but in different packaging in many cases. There’s a couple lines of vino that get good marks.

More supermarkets the better in my opinion.

I really dig the good scene in VT but sometimes just sometimes the wallet wants a good price point.

I heat my whole house with a single air sourced heat pump and so far it’s been very good. There is definitely some efficiency that is lost when it drops well below zero but overall it’s been great and the upside is ac in the sweaty parts if the summer. We also have solar so that helps offset the costs.

A newer house up the road is using both geothermal and air sourced heat pumps. Might be a bit overkill but if it’s new construction and the contractor has the excavator there the costs of install seem pretty modest plus I was told that the loop only needs to be 6ish feet down.

If I had to do it again I think I’d still use air sourced with solar. Good incentives for both and solar is a good hedge for rising energy costs.
