He was a progressive because he dared to go on TV and say that he feared his biracial son would get shot by NYPD. Then the staten islanders were real unhappy

The military doesn't get fucking unions. The people who man our nuclear missiles don't have unions. I am pro labor as they come but maybe we can have this one exception.

What gets to me is we still don't know where the money came from. So basically the FEC is.. waiting for Santos to respond to a letter asking for more information?
>Mr. Kappel said that the change on Mr. Santos’s campaign filings would be likely to trigger a letter from the F.E.C. asking for more information on the source of the loan.
So in a few months they are gonna fine him a pittance, it's gonna turn out he lied again, then maybe GOP leadership tries to get him to resign so he doesn't get prosecuted in return. Same fucking bullshit.

Yeah but back in the day when I drank a lot of coffee it was sooo convenient to just push a button and get a quick drink. Also great for the morning while I am still waking up :)

Yeah I even bought a super automatic from Delonghi for $800 in 2009. Checking now, you can get a super auto from same manufacturer for $800. It jammed a lot, too many parts. Don't like it.
Not a fan of Italian machines either. I remember I couldn't even reach support (no email, just a voicemail in Italian).
Now I just do hot water dispenser, aeropress, and a manual grinder. I have gone through many, including the famed rocky. That jammed a lot. People on the internet: STOP USING dark oily beans. But.. that's what I like to drink.
Kitchenaid burr grinder, that's lasted me 15 years+, only jams once a year if even that. Broke the glass once, called customer service to buy a new one. They just shipped me one for free.
Looking at models, it is similar to the KCG0702CS that's $300. I don't know if it's still the same quality. They got a $200 too.

Shit got expensive. I remember they were around $400 10 years ago

As in 'Merica bald eagles? Yikes! If I had a dog I'd walk them with those spiky-looking collars. They don't even have to be spiky, just some cloak that looks scary from above.

I have some phillip smart bulbs. A bit expensive thought and not bright enough for my living room. I replaced them with 3 big LED fixtures at 4k with a dimmer switch. In the evening I use it at the bare minimum, color temp doesn't really matter at that point.
For the bedroom the old warm temps are fine, you want warm lights to go to sleep anyway.
edit: oh I remember why I disliked the phillip lights. They are a neat party trick but I hated the app to control them. If I did it again I'd make sure there's a hardwired control at the switch. Yes it means you need to get up.

I think it's how you grew up maybe. I grew up closer to the tropics so I prefer bright, intense lights. High K lights like the ones from CFL depress the fuck out of me.

3k is too orange, it is the color of light during sunset
I need 4k to stay awake and keep seasonal affective disorder away. 4k is the color of the sun at noon. 4k is the closest to "neutral white"
edit: oh one more variable. The furniture and wall colors you have will affect how light looks. If your walls are yellow like mine the light will look yellower.

Thanks for the info
I think big appliances are important to fix because they are expensive ($3000 LG fridges are not that rare, for example.) If we can get big markets of NY and Cali going perhaps we can revive small appliance repair as a trade.
I do have a cheap little electric lawn mower. It's great. The only maintenance I foresee is having to sharpen the blade and change the battery eventually.
(I had a gasoline snow blower and I had so many problems. Apparently normal gas will gum up the engines, you need to find gas without ethanol. And then somehow drain the tank after winter is over? Too much of a pain. )
sunflowercompass t1_j15dysg wrote
Fingers crossed it affects appliances and not just Iphones.
You shouldn't have to spend $400 to replace a gasket on your clothes washer, or resort to grey market shenanigans to replace a circuit board on your air conditioner (they only sell to licensed HVAC techs).

Sir Thomas More coined the actual term for as the title of the book.
While Plato's Republic describes an utopian government(as in aspirational, perfect society) he did not use the word.
