Hmm this looks dated. Riverfront square is definitely off the table, with construction of citisquare hopefully starting this spring…

I’m eager to get everyone’s take on whether this will come to fruition, given the mixed best track record at best of grand projects coming to fruition. Thoughts everyone? Yes, no, maybe?

Wow I didn’t know that. Given the location, I’m surprised they are not cleaning it up.

Nice pic! Shows how much land near Broad Street Station remains vacant or underutilized.

More residents in the downtown area does not expand the city’s tax base, and their spending at local restaurants etc. does not create new jobs? And these factors do not help the community at large?

Yup that’s what I was trying to point out. Fingers crossed.

I think Newark needs more high earning residents who pay taxes and spend money in the city. That will create more jobs for native Newarkers, and provide the city with its much needed funds for projects further out in the wards.

Hope this place succeeds - so far, except for some places on Halsey, restaurants and bars in this area have mostly come and gone.

Hmm - this is next to the future citi square location, right? Or would this be part of citi square?

It’s very much not. I used to live in Newark but still follow developments. So I’m interested but can’t easily check things out in person.

Interesting to see that a significant majority believes only 1 tower will be built. I think many of us have become a bit disillusioned by grand plans that have come and gone without any of it materializing. Very much hope we are turning that page.
