Actually this IS the exact reason why scuba divers go in backwards from small rubber boats: They are sitting with their backs to the water and there isn’t an easy way to turn around. Whenever possible (i.e. with bigger boats) a scuba diver would jump into the water with feet first and head facing the water not the boat.

Why do they only have it once a year, not every day? Would make much more sense.
