Thank you!! Your idea was really cool, it was how I could write this story. And I think your own post deserves more upvotes, there could be more creative and awesome stories written of off the idea!!

Did I see right? I was starting to hallucinate, two hours of sleep was really not good for me. Maybe I should-

"What the-!?"

I could swear I saw it twitch again. What was going on!? Without moving and not even breathing, I watched my shadow. Nothing, it stayed still. Just as I thought about getting up, I saw it move. This time it wasn't even just twitching, the arm moved more than that.

"What!?"

I jumped up and tried to back away. Oh well, you can't exactly escape your shadow so what was I even expecting? Still, I tried to run away but of course it followed me. I needed light, enough light to make my shadow dissappear.

"Dude, calm down."

I stopped dead in my tracks. Who talked just now? I was pretty sure I was home alone, my roommate had left to go to his hometown. Then who was it?

"It's me, look down."

I looked down and saw my shadow waving at me. My eyes were fixated on the shadow that moved on it's own, trying not to lose my shit. All of this was just a dream, wasn't it? It had to be.

"I know it's hard to believe but as you can see I can move on my own," he moved his head right and left. "I'm alive just like you."

"Did I stay up too late?"

Yeah, I needed to go to sleep. This all was just a nightmare and when I wake up, it would all be back to normal.

I heard the shadow sigh. "This is real, I'm real."

How could a shadow move on it's own? A shadow was supposed to move along with it's owner, what happening right now was just impossible!

"What are you?" I asked, terrified.

"I'm your shadow. I've been mirroring your moves all this time, doing what you doing."

"Then... then why did you move now?" I was starting to question my sanity.

"Oh, easy. To swap places."

"Wha-"

Before I could finish, I felt myself being dragged into the ground by my feet. I tried to hold onto the things around me, knocking a chair even but I couldn't save myself. The shadow slowly surrounded me and finally my face was swallowed up by it. I opened my eyes to see everything from the ground. My vision was darkened then normal. I tried to move but I couldn't.

There my body was, standing in front of me. My body was right there but I wasn't in it, I was on the ground. I was a shadow. I saw myself smile while looking down at me.

"Time for you to live as a shadow. First few years you won't be able to move on your own. I couldn't as well." He laughed. I tried to move again but I couldn't. He lifted his hand to his hair and that was when I moved, to mirror his movements. I couldn't stop myself. "There are so many things I'm planning on doing. I watched you waste our lives with your stupid choices but don't worry, I'll fix it. You better get used to be in my shadows though, you aren't gonna get your body back."

I tried to scream, move, do anything but I couldn't. As he walked away, I only mirrored his movements. All I could do was that anyways.
