If you want to talk about what you read like you have a voluntary english class, theyre great.
If you dont care for the book and dont know the people, they will probably be drab.
I run one with some old friends and we hard cap it at about 50-75 pages per week, and one hour per meeting (we do zoom so the time limit is less imposing on ones day) Plenty of time to discuss the book and shoot some shit.
Also they are always better with a little vino

I recently read it and loved it. I remember thinking in chapter 2 that Stephen just needs to jack off and his problems would be lessened.
Then chapter 3 happened and i was laughing so hard.
Also loved the day of dappled seaborn clouds on the jetty

“It was like certain dinners I remember from the war. There was much wine, an ignored tension, a feeling of things coming that you could not prevent happening. They all seemed like such nice people" -The Sun Also Rises
My wife was in the hospital at the time, and later would he again in a much worse way (shes better now). But this feeling of a once close group of people about to show themselves seemed scary and her parents did seem like such nice people.

The first book of The Sun Also Rises is basically just ubering around a city and partying with your friends.
I recently read The Time Machine for the first time and so much of it feels very modern in story and theme. Tho this ones been so influential that is the reason it feels modern

if you want something thrilling and also considered literature, I would recommend A Farewell to Arms by Hemmingway.

For narrative heavy shows, I always watch the previously on segment because it just gives you the past story beats that are relevant to this episode. Though if its binge mode I just go for it and see what I take away.
I like to put the onus of my understanding and enjoyment on the show and how its presented

We choose shorter books like Time Machine or Starship Troopers or like, Poe stories.
Its slow but everyone can keep up even with kids, work, etc.
Also doesnt disrupt side boarding books.
