Shiny Happy People - R.E.M. it’s most likely about everyone being on Prozac in the early 90’s- “there’s no time to cry, happy, happy!”
The phrase Shiny Happy People is rumoured to have been lifted from a mistranslated CCP propaganda poster about the student protesters at Tiananmen Square which described the students as shiny happy people. …Meet me in the crowd…

Bands are funny things aren’t they, like you end up playing with a group of people and you build this connection with so it can be kinda hard to say or suggest stuff. Ultimately I think it comes down to just how invested you are in the band, what it means to you and how seriously you wanna take it.
I definitely advocate for suggesting something and giving people time to think on things. You’ve had this thought and have sat and stewed on it for a while now, but the other people haven’t. So give them time to think stuff over as well. People need to digest stuff and take stuff in and process info.
A few examples of famous band dynamics:
The Who- Roger Daltry was the front man, but Pete Townsend wrote the music and lyrics.
R.E.M. - At the beginning Micheal Stipe was an incredibly shy and awkward front man. He would even turn his back to the crowd during early gigs, lots of mumbly vocals. There’s an early tv appearance of them on Lettermen where Stipe hides away after they finish playing so he doesn’t have to deal with the cost chat with Dave.
He also openly admits to not knowing what he was doing when they were recording early albums and whenever they asked him to do a retake and gave advice, he didn’t understand so he would just sing it differently. Point is, people can grow and develop. That’s however not always the case, but it can happen.
They also always spilt the writing credits evenly between them all. Berry/Buck/Mills/Stipe.
Sonic Youth- Kinda spilt the vocal duties 3 ways. Maybe Thurston was the band leader, but I wouldn’t say he was the front man.
Point is, is that it’s your band. You get to create the dynamic. Sometimes awkward, tough conversations are needed- comes back to how seriously you are taking it.

I think the quote to attribute is: “It’s boring without drugs.”
Spend enough time with addicts and you quickly realize that life as it is won’t do. It’s too boring. When your brain is addicted to the very highs you can’t tolerate the middle for very long.

Also for certain chords you gotta lower your thumb on the back of the neck, as it helps you lift up your fingers.

Leftie that plays guitar right handed here.
I recommend doing the following things:
Learn Pixies bass lines- really simple but it will give you some special awareness of the guitar neck. Go get the bass tabs for Gouge Away, Gigantic and I Bleed and learn them off by heart so you can play them along to the song.
Then learn Oasis Wonderwall, because it’s really simple and only requires you to move a couple of fingers around while your third finger and little finger stay where they are. Just get used to throwing your other fingers around to land the chords.
Practice, go away for a bit and then practice again.
Try to play in front of a mirror or a reflection (I used to play in front of my window) because that way you can see what both hands are doing.
What’s the Frequency Kenneth? would then be my next step up. Lots of chords, a couple of quick chord changes to keep up with, fun song to play along to. Also Bm to keep you on your toes.
You will sound shit. You will suck. But you’ll get there. Just keep at it and then you won’t :)

Michael Stipe said that “The Lifting” was a prequel to the protagonist from “Daysleeper.” I’m happy for you or someone else to suggest the third one in the series.
