I didn’t know it was a Woody Allen film until after I watched it. I saw Cate Blanchett was in it and figured it’d be decent. I get where your question is coming from. I can’t say the fact detracted from the movie being good.

Batman and Robin (1997). The bat nipples and campiness get a lot of flack, but I love how colorful and theatrical it is. Also Thurman and Schwarzenegger are amazing as Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze.

I just watched Blue Jasmine (2013) on Netflix for the first time and enjoyed it. Great organic character development and acting against what seems like a mundane plot.

American media is consumed more frequently abroad than other country’s media is consumed in America, so Australians and British people are likely to have grown up having been exposed to American English at a higher rate than the other way around. I don’t think it’s a matter of acting skill so much as it is more exposure to American English dialects.

For me, your comment is accurate. The visuals were great fun along the way to the emotional core. I saw so much of my parents and myself in the characters. It captures the poignancy of regret and expectations—the ones we put on ourselves and the ones that are put upon us—so compellingly. It really made me think about what happiness means and how, ultimately, our lives only have as much meaning and joy as we allow ourselves to give it. All movies tell stories, and some stories just don’t resonate with everyone. And that’s okay.
