Yeah, inside the event horizon, no matter which direction you look, you are looking at the singularity (whatever that looks like, which no one knows). That has always tripped me out.

Reply to How would a monocot/dicot and a woody plant grow differently in zero gravity? Would the woody plant grow straight or does that require gravity? by Jade_Mans_Eyes
Just a clarification, woody plants can include both monocots and dicots. Woody-ness (a shrub or treelike form) is a trait that has evolved many times independently in plants. Monocots and dicots refer to the number of seed leaves these clades possess (one and two respectively), amongst other differences.

It's worth pointing out that in humans, the jaw and (I believe) parts of the inner ear are derived from the same embryonic structures that turn into gills in fish. So, in a sense, you do have gills.

Yeah, philosophers and neuroscientists have long struggled with the problem of why consciousness exists. But an equally deep problem is why our human consciousness seems to be aware of such a small fraction of what is actually going on in our brains.

Your imaginary planet-scale autoclave would not come close to killing everything on earth. It would just turn it into a planet full of extremophiles!
