EXCERPT: "...The grants will help independent businesses increase production of American-made fertilizer, which will spur competition, give U.S. farmers more choices and fairer prices and reduce dependence on unreliable foreign sources like Russia and Belarus....

There it is. Belarus & Russia provide about 40% of all the potash in the world.Throw China into the mix and it's about 60%

And you can forget getting potash from Russia and Belarus now with the UKR war raging and US and worldwide sanctions in effect.

As a result, prices have already jumped by a factor of 5 and 6 and will only get worse.

If the world has a shortage of Potash, because of the highly industrialized nature of our farming, it's a train wreck. Global food security will suffer.

Peter Zeihan talks about it a bit on his youtube channel. He thinks up to a billion people could starve if it all goes to hell. (admittedly this is worst case)

As another Redditor noted, (wabbit) yes it is a little late but better late than never. They are throwing 500MM at it and that number will probably go up.

It's all part of the new world order. this line from the press release tells you what's up:

"...The deal, struck in Beijing this week amid its ceremonial National People's Congress, represents a major diplomatic victory for the Chinese as Gulf states perceive the United States slowly withdrawing from the wider Middle East. ....

Iran is OPEC's 3rd largest producer of crude oil and 5th largest producer of natural gas.

SA has 2nd largest oil reserves in the world. Between the two they have enough oil to last 200 + years each. Collectively a bit more.

tl;dr China is thirsty. Playing matchmaker/dealmaker ensures the taps stay open with multiple redundancies.

maybe OP's thinking is worst case scenario with a fire well on it's way to consuming the structure and best hope is just calm/slow/delay the fire's spread to get time to get everyone out which is one way to look at it.

My thought is to have multiple extinguishers prepositioned along with multiple ways out including windows. heavy blankets in the bedrooms hallways. tossed over the back of the couch. etc.

and these throwable extinguishers are amazing in an enclosed space that would challenge a handheld pressurized unit.

They can shut down a kitchen fire in one or 2 shots or make a hole through a larger fire to be able to get out the door.

spend for proper smoke detectors. don't forget the garage if you park indoors.

> The speed of sound is around 660mph

true but the jetstream going US to EU is doing a lot of that lifting to get a 700mph readout on the SATNAV system..

700 mph 'across the ground' can also and at the same time be 550mph 'airspeed' when you surf the polar vortex going west to east.

Even though the aircraft is moving at 700mph across the ground, there is no sonic boom or breaking of the sound barrier which requires the aircraft to break 660mph in airspeed.

The polar jetstream tailwind is no joke. It's how/why the typical NY to London flight time is approx 7 hours and London - NY is 8 hours +

They take advantage on it going to London and try to avoid it as much as possible when going back to NY.

>cruising at a cool 700mph

likely due to the jetstream effect throwing off the numbers.

you were probably in the polar jet which can reach speeds of up to 275 mph and runs west to east so if you were going TO EU, the effect of this tailwind could have easily boosted your speed 'across the ground' (which is what the SATNAV systems report) to 700 mph without any sound barrier shenanigans but 'airspeed' relative to the surrounding air was probably 500-550 which is standard cruise these days to conserve fuel.
