Already claimed my asshole status. I ignored what you said because despite apparently thinking it makes you sound worldly and enlightened, your takes on race and community are so far outside my own perspective that I really don’t have much to say about it.

I’m glad your neighbors like you. I’m glad you have joy in your life. You’re pretty miserable in an online anonymous forum, and if your friends saw the things you were saying they might want to have a chat, but dafuck does THIS asshole know?

I do know that I offered an olive branch, multiple times, and you took each as an opportunity to shit all over them, this state, this sub, and anything else you see as not worthy.

If you meet an asshole in the morning, fuck that asshole. If you meet assholes all day, chances are it’s not them.

I’m a pretty well-known asshole around here.

In all honesty, your post was pretty cringe and insulting. There are lots of ways to ask for help without resorting to racial profiling and demeaning your adopted regions local flavor.

There’s plenty of bad food out there, but a simple “Hey, looking for authentic Japanese street food, I’ve been having a hard time finding some” will go much further than denigrating the local options you have tried.

Good luck out there.

The best takoyaki and udon I’ve had was just outside Tsukiji in Tokyo. Followed by the little inn during cherry blossom festival in Kakunodate.

In NYC go to East 9th street and there’s a little standing room only joint where they make the takoyaki fresh in front of you and the bonito flakes just curl and dance until you eat ‘em!

In Portland, I’ve found that there’s really only one place to go to get anything approaching a decent takoyaki and slurpable udon broth.

And fuck me if I’ll tell you where, I’d rather you go look in NYC.

Or further.

You can say it was me getting aggro all you want. You called them both cunts, and set them up as equals. If that’s your take, it says a bit about the value of your opinions.

My opinion: they’re not equal. Not even close. If that means I prove your point or I’m some kind of hardliner, I’ll take it. Making both sides look equally compromised at this point only elevates the reprehensible.

Proud of Mills, don’t agree with her much of the time. However, calling the guy who refused to honor MLK day while also blaming Maine’s drug problems on black guys impregnating white girls isn’t what I’d consider much of a “hardline take” and more common decency.

If they both seem the same to you, I’d suggest you look into their policies and personalities a little more.

More like Brooklynification (for now), but since the attack happened in Manhattan I thought I’d go with that.

Neither of those are really that accurate, they’re more metaphors for what’s happening in Portland: rising rents, rising prices, abundance of short term rentals, expensive drinks, and folks from NYC buying up second homes or wfh homes.

You are correct, though. Portland is not Manhattan.

Glad to hear. I was thinking more philosophically/mental health. But all the comments about layers are absolutely true and essential. It took me years to convince my wife to try a vest. She didn’t understand how a vest could keep her extremities warm.

Get a vest. They work wonders!
